How to use conversion optimization in FB ads due to iOS 14 tracking changes?

How to set up 8 events for your FB ads manager and get ready for the iOS 14 data tracking changes?

Problem:

You can't use conversion optimization in your Conversions objective campaigns. Even if you choose standard events (such as purchase, add to cart, etc.), FB still shows warnings that ads will pause when iOS 14 policy changes take effect. In your ad, you can also get an error like "This event hasn’t been set up on any of your domains"

Solution:

You need to manually select 8 conversions (per 1 domain) that you plan to track in your campaigns, even if they are standard events. You can do this in the Event manager (see the manual below). Once the iOS 14 tracking changes go live, Facebook will execute an 8-event limitation on optimization.

What you need:

  • FB Business Manager account and admin access to it (if you don't have it yet, check out this article "How to create an FB Business Manager account");

  • Your website domain must be verified in your FB Business Manager (or you should be able to make changes on the site to verify it along the way);

Steps:

Step 1: Go to your FB Business Manager account - https://business.facebook.com (select the one you need if you have several)

Step 2: Go to Event Manager;

Step 3: Select the Pixel you need and click on the "Aggregated Event Measurement" tab;

Step 4: Click on “Configure Web Events”;

Step 5: Select the domain you want to configure (remember, you can choose 8 for one specific domain) and click “Manage Events”;

Step 6: Add up to 8 events you want to track;

Note: Critical! The most important event for you should go first. Facebook will only receive a user’s highest-ranked event in one visit! For example, if you put View Content above Purchase, FB will only record View Content since it will take precedence. Be careful and add events in the correct sequence!

Check "Yes, I understand these changes" and click accept. That's all for now. The error should disappear over time. Once the iOS 14 tracking changes go live, you can only work with your 8 events (you can change them if necessary).
